“Survivor” doesn’t seem to be a big enough word to convey the example of Tony Handler. Over the last 35 years, he has survived 10 bouts with six different kinds of cancer requiring 20 surgeries. He still receives a monthly chemo shot to keep his live cancer under control.
You’d think just dealing with all those health issues would be enough to keep Tony busy, but he’s done so much more. He has crossed the finish line hundreds of times, in the process becoming one of the world’s top triathletes in the 70-75 age group. At last count, he’s completed more than 280 races and is still averaging nine a year, including grueling half-Ironman races.
As he faces his 76th birthday, Tony explains to Growing Bolder Radio how and why he keeps running. He shares the goals he’s set for himself and how only one thing can take him off that track — traveling to his granddaughter’s softball games.
Listen to Tony and get inspired to keep defying the odds in your own life.
