Few singers have had careers as long or as successful as Rita Coolidge.

For more than four decades, her music has been the soundtrack of our lives. She has too many hits to name, has won Grammys and toured with some of the greatest musicians of all time.

She also has a unique ability to take previous hits and make them her own, such as “The Way You Do the Things You Do” and “One Fine Day.”

Rita reveals which singer inspired her as a child to pursue music and how she almost ended up an art teacher if only she could have landed a teaching job instead of singing gigs.

She also shares stories from her big break — appearing on Joe Cocker’s 1970 monster hit album “Mad Dogs and Englishman.” Find out what life was like on the road for a Baptist preacher’s daughter.

Plus, find out why she’s still trying to shake the country star label that got attached to her thanks to her collaborations with her ex-husband Kris Kristofferson.
