Chances are we all know someone who’s struggled with dementia. A new documentary takes a bittersweet, unapologetic look at the topic many choose to look away from. Could we be looking at our own future? In a recent survey, responders said dementia is the one thing they fear most about aging. This documentary, created by friends of the subject shows why.

Pamela Hogan and Connie Schulman, Yoga Jones from Orange is the New Black, knew something was wrong with their friend Laury Sacks. At 45, this actress, writer and mother of two suddenly couldn’t find the words to express herself. They watched as she began a not-so-slow descent to the ravages of dementia. They realized it was a story that needed to be told, and Laury agreed to allow personal access.

The result is a rare look inside a world that all too many are dealing with. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, one in three people over 65 die with some form of dementia. This film is an unvarnished, revealing look at the impact, not just on Laury, but her husband, family and friends.
