Alex Rotas proves that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself and never too late to discover a new passion. She has degrees in geography, special education and visual culture. She’s taught at all levels, including language skills to pre-school deaf children and visual theory to university students.

Her doctoral was on the work of visual artists who arrived in Europe as refugees and asylum seekers. She’s developed palliative care training programs for hospice, is a grandmother, practicing Zen Buddhist and one heck of a photographer who specializes in photographing competitive athletes in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, which is how she caught our attention.

She joins us from her home in Great Britain to tell us how she got interested in photography and what she finds so fascinating about masters athletes.

In her mid-60s herself, Alex has just published her first book, “Growing Old Competitively.” She explains what she hopes her photos and book convey to people across the world, whether you’re in your 30s or 80s.
