Babette Hughes has lived the kind of life that sounds exactly like it came out of a book. So she put hers into books.

She’s the daughter of a bootlegger who was murdered by mobsters during the Prohibition. The 90-year-old has written four books and is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post.

She was named the 2012 Historical Author of the Year for her novel, “The Hat.” She’e just released the sequel called “The Red Scarf” and it’s gaining a lot of buzz.

Babette takes us back to her father’s murder in 1924, when she was just two years old, and why it was one of the biggest stories of its day.

She explains why society has it all wrong about getting older and what she wants everyone to know about aging. She also describes her breast cancer diagnosis from a few years ago and how it led to a profound change in her thinking.
