Director Bob Cillman took the term “Young at Heart” literally and has created a sensational choir of older people who sing classic rock, punk and R&B songs. The chorus sings The Clash, Coldplay, Sonic Youth, Jimi Hendrix and Prince songs, among others.

Cillman says the songs take on new meaning when interpreted and sung by older people. A documentary of the same name follows the group for a few weeks as they go on tour.

The deaths of two chorus members within a week of each other weren’t foreseen, but Cillman said the chorus kept singing. And now, singing isn’t the only thing the group does. The chorus tours the world with theatrical productions.

Cillman talks with Growing Bolder about the documentary’s message and how the chorus shows people age is nothing but a number.
