Two bands captured the sound and the spirit of the San Francisco psychedelic rock scene — Jefferson Airplane and Quicksilver Messenger Service.

And one man was a crucial member of both bands. Now 75, David Freiberg still travels the world performing with Jefferson Starship.

He takes us back to the late ’60s to describe the San Francisco music scene and festival circuit. He shares stories from Woodstock, Monterey and even meeting a young Janis Joplin at the University of Texas. Find out how she ended up spending her first weeks in San Francisco on his living room floor.

After watching way too many of his friends die too young, somewhere around the age of 40, he decided to get in shape and started running. By 40, he was in the best shape of his life and says it’s probably the only reason he’s still around today.

He explains why he stopped performing live for 20 years, from 1985-2005, and what he thinks of Jefferson Starship’s music during that period.

Plus, find out why he disagrees with Grace Slick’s famous comment that you should stop performing live at a certain age.

Click here to visit Jefferson Starship’s website and find out where you can catch their next show.
