Country music superstar Donna Fargo’s has written some impressive songs, but her books, poems and political messages are just as remarkable.

In 1969, she was the Top New Female Vocalist and was just about to burst onto the national stage. In 1972, her song, “The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA” was on everyone’s lips. Two years later, she wrote the song “U.S. of A.” in response to Watergate.

Now, more than 30 years later, she’s making taking another political stance. Her newest single, “We Can Do Better in America” is her way of being a trend-setter; something she’s used to.

In her time, Fargo, was one of the very few female country singers who wrote the songs she sang and was one of a handful of singers who crossed over to the pop charts.

But Fargo isn’t stopping at just making and writing music — she’s writing greetings cards, books and poems. She’s even tried compiling the “Ten Golden Rules for Living.”

She talks with Growing Bolder about her rules and how being diagnosed with a disease has affected her life.
