Ellen Bukstel has one of the most powerful musical voices in the age revolution, and she never saw it coming.

Her husband was dying of AIDS. She wanted others to be aware, to understand and to share her grief. Then her father slowly deteriorated from Alzheimer’s disease. She turned to the only thing she knew well — music.

She wrote songs, the kind of songs you just don’t hear on the radio. Her songs are about pain and loss. She was stunned to find a receptive audience. Her message was hitting home.

Since then, she’s broadened her themes to write about everything from hot flashes to mood swings to sex drive. People began to notice. Janice Ian and Michael Bolton rave about her, and word of mouth has brought her to the forefront.

Ellen says mainstream radio is missing the boat. She believes there are people going through midlife right now that want more than background music. They want subject matter and lyrics they can relate to.

Ellen says musical activism is back with a vengeance and she’s thrilled that at this time in her life she can be a leader in the movement.
