Frank Ferrante had pretty much given up on any chance of changing himself or even his future. But then one day, he walked into a raw food restaurant, of all places, and suddenly his life changed forever.

Frank is the subject of a new documentary called, “May I Be Frank: A Film About Sex, Drugs and Transformation.”

The movie is sort of the opposite of “Supersize Me,” the Academy Award-nominated film that followed a man for 28 days while he only ate food from McDonald’s.

In Frank’s case, he started out overweight, depressed and lonely and spent 42 days eating raw food, visiting holistic healers and trying a variety of healthy experiences to reverse where he was mentally, physically and spiritually.

Frank says the whole experiment started when he walked into San Francisco’s Cafe Gratitude and met some of the waiters. He said he was so starved for contact and warmth and they were so emotionally generous.

He explains how these “vegan hippies” helped him, a Sicilian guy from Brooklyn, reclaim his life and change it for the better.
