Franklin “Bud” Held burst onto the world track and field scene with his record-breaking collegiate career at Stanford University.

Now, 75 years old and a member of the U.S.A. Track and Field Hall of Fame, he talked to Growing Bolder about his historic career and why he continues to compete.

He holds world records in three events, and he is the only human in history to pole vault over 10 feet after the age of 70.
