Gert Boyle is an industry icon who re-invented not only her self but her family’s company too after her husband died of a heart attack at the age of 47.

Today, at 86 years old, she is chairman of the $1.2 billion company, Columbia Sportswear. She took over the struggling company, which her father had founded, after her husband’s death, and with her son, Tim, they refused to let it go, somehow persevering and turning it into the international success it is today.

She’s written a book called, “One Tough Mother: Taking Charge in Life, Business and Apple Pies,” which not only tells the story of their company but also reveals how she escaped Nazi Germany as a teenager and found a new chance at life in America.

Gert says it takes innovation to stay ahead of the game, and between coming up with new materials and memorable ad campaigns, such as the One Tough Mother commercials starring Gert, the company has not only survived but thrived.

But it’s not all work for Gert. She reveals that she likes to party and shares some of her favorite ways to let loose. Plus, she reveals her secrets for staying young.
