He’s responsible for one of the greatest and most legendary bands of the ’70s, K.C. and the Sunshine Band. Harry Wayne Casey, better known as K.C., has been shake, shake, shaking and getting down tonight for more than 35 years and he’s not stopping anytime soon.

It all started in 1973, when Casey, along with songwriting collaborator and bassist Richard Finch formed the legendary K.C. and the Sunshine Band. It didn’t take long for the crew to make it big with hits like “Get Down Tonight” and “That’s the Way I Like It.”

But it also didn’t take long for the band to dissolve. Just ask quickly as disco died, so did the Sunshine Band in the ’80s. But K.C. was quicker to defend his group as a non-disco band.

To add to his problems, K.C. was paralyzed in a serious car accident in 1982 and was left unable to walk. He retired soon after, but really wasn’t ready to give up on his musical dream — returning to the music scene in the ’90s.

K.C. talks with Growing Bolder about how it feels to still tour around the world, and his other passion.
