King Errisson went from the depths of poverty in his native Bahamas to being considered one of the greatest percussionists in the world. He’s recorded with Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, Diana Ross and The Four Tops. Berry Gordy called him the “unsung hero of Motown.” He still plays with Neil Diamond, as he has for nearly 40 years.

He’s just released his autobiography, My Life, My Loves and his latest album is called One Love.

King talks to Growing Bolder about his unexpected big break thanks to being discovered by Sean Connery and the crew from Thunderball, who were filming in King’s hometown. He impressed them so much they wrote him into the movie, and the rest is music history.

Now, at 75, he’s feeling more inspired and creative as ever. He shares his advice for seizing the opportunities that are presented in life. His motto? Don’t let fear hold you back — go for it!
