There is something happening across the world that is changing aging — the amazing growth of interest and participation in senior or masters sports. A rapidly growing number of men and women, from 50 to over 100, are participating year-round in everything from swimming and track and field to pickle ball and horseshoes.

Yes, there were some incredible athletes competing, but there are also people simply trying to stay healthy, recover from a physical setback or lose weight. The common denominator is a desire to improve their overall health and wellbeing and hang out with like-minded people.

The next big event on the masters sports circuit is the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah, organizers are expecting athletes from dozens of countries. Last year’s games featured 11,033 total athletes from 32 different countries — a number that rivals the number of competitors at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Kyle Case is the CEO of the Huntsman World Senior Games, an expert on active aging and the host of the weekly podcast, Huntsman World Senior Games Active Life. Kyle talks to Growing Bolder about the upcoming games and reveals why he believes masters sports are growing more and more popular every year. Find out what he thinks the future of aging looks like and how you can take the first step toward getting involved yourself.
