In 1968, the Vietnam War was in full swing. Many young men were drafted or dropped out of college to volunteer.

Alan Moore was a placekicker for his football team but he put those ambitions behind him to serve his country.
In 2004, he was laid off from his construction job and found himself with a lot of time on his hands. He got a football and shoes and started kicking again. He was surprised by what he still could do.

That set him on a path that sent him back to college, and this season, made him the oldest college football player ever.
Alan, who was 61 years old during the 2011 season at Faulkner University in Alabama, says his return to the game was never just about him — it was about the players around him.

He says before he could take the field again, he had to convince coaches that this wasn’t a joke and that he could bring something positive to the team. He said he knew making the team would be a tough sell because he was asking people and an institution to do something that had never been done before — putting a 50-something placekicker on the team.

Alan explains how he earned the respect of his teenage teammates and what he thinks they and he have gotten out of his return to college sports.
