As he approached his 40th birthday, entertainment attorney Rich Roll was like a lot of men — he was overweight, out of shape and didn’t have the energy to live life like he wanted to.

Today, he’s 46 and one of world’s top ultradistance endurance athletes and plant-based nutrition advocates.

How did he make the switch and find himself named one of the world’s fittest men by Men’s Fitness magazine and one of PETA’s sexiest vegetarian celebrities?

His new book, “Finding Ultra: Rejecting Middle Age, Becoming One of the World’s Fittest Men and Discovering Myself,” is resonating with a lot of people and Rich just might be the right guy, at the right time, with the right message.

Rich takes us back to the eve of his 40th birthday and describes the health scare that motivated him to make changes in his lifestyle. He said he started with his diet first, which laid the foundation for his many, extreme fitness challenges that followed.

The new face of a meat- and dairy-free lifestyle explains that he started experimenting with plant-based nutrition as a bet with his wife that it wouldn’t work.

He reveals the good and bad of doing a seven-day fruit and vegetable juice cleanse and how it affected his body.

Plus, he talks about his first adventures with cutting out meat and how he discovered that you can be just as unhealthy eating a “vegetarian” diet. He explains how he found the best way to fuel his body and why he made the decision to adopt a vegan diet.

Finally, he dispels the myths that athletes can’t perform at an extremely high level on a plant-based diet and that it’s too expensive to feed a family healthier foods.
